Hanging clothes outside on an Amish clothesline, or even inside your home on some sort of mounted clothesline, can provide numerous health benefits besides the obvious cost-savings. Think about it? How many times have we told ourselves we wanted to go for a short, brisk walk outside and never do it?

Well, taking your clothes outside and hanging them on a line is a similar enough activity that can get you off the couch and moving around. Sure it’s not super strenuous, but that’s not the point — it’s all about moving more, not training for a triathalon. On top of getting some more moderate exercise into our daily routines, there is something to be said for reducing our exposure to chemicals often found in detergents and dryer sheets.

Air drying laundry helps reduce that exposure. Instead of chemicals, the sun and Mother Nature are drying your clothes all the while adding a therapeutic aspect to your clothes. And lastly, just having an opportunity to get outside — even if it’s just for a few minutes — can help alter your mood for the better or allow you some time to clear your mind. The benefits to having some time to yourself are incalculable and may not seem to be so obvious.
