You know that hanging your clothes on a clothesline is an environmentally-friendly way to dry out your laundry, but do you know how to help your clothes dry quickly without getting wrinkled? Following a few basic tips for different articles of clothing will help you air dry laundry effectively.

Shirts: You’ll probably be hanging more shirts on your clothesline than anything else. To avoid stretching out the shoulders, pin the bottom hem to the clothesline at the corners. Alternatively, some homeowners hang their shirts and tops from a coat hanger to dry.

Pants: Hang your pants waist-down for the fastest drying. Pinning each pants leg to the clothesline can also speed up the drying process (if you have space available). If you don’t have as much room to work with, line up the inner leg seams when pinning your pants legs to the line.

Bedding: Bedding can be somewhat tricky, as it can take up quite a bit of line space. For best results with sheets and blankets, fold them in half and clip the non-folded end to the clothesline to avoid creating a giant crease. Hang pillowcases in pairs (you can do this with your socks as well).
